How hard is it to get into the Honors College at MSU? ›

This program comes with many perks and requirements that can be hard for new members to navigate. To be in MSU's Honor College, students need to establish a GPA of 3.2 during their freshman year and maintain it until graduation.

The university requires a cumulative grade–point average (GPA) of 2.00 or above for graduation. The statement on ASUS establishes a system whereby at the end of any semester that a student's cumulative GPA falls below 2.00, the student is assigned to a warning status designated as probation.

The minimum cumulative grade-point average required for graduation is a 2.0 for undergraduates and 3.0 for graduate students.

Falsifications, misrepresentations, or omissions in application answers or supporting data may constitute grounds to deny or revoke admission to the university.

The New York Times columnist Frank Bruni noted that Barrett Honors College is “widely considered the gold standard” of honors institutions and pointed out that Barrett combines an academically distinguished student body with “the scale, eclecticism and sprawling resources of a huge university.

A cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher with strong grade performance. 24 or more credits deemed transferable to MSU, earned after high school graduation. Applicants with less than 24 transferable credits are required to provide final high school transcripts.

Generally, applicants should aim for a 3.5 GPA—in particular, a 3.5 cumulative GPA in the sciences shows well. Additionally, applicants should aim for an MCAT score in the 500 range or above.

Good academic standing requires that a student have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0. When a student's cumulative GPA falls below a 2.0 they will be placed on Academic Probation or they may be Recessed (or Dismissed).

The Michigan State University acceptance rate is 83%. For every 100 applicants, 83 are admitted indicating that the school is lightly selective. The school will have its expected GPA and SAT/ACT requirements. If you fulfil their criteria, you are almost certain to be accepted.

Michigan State admissions is somewhat selective with an acceptance rate of 88%. Students that get into Michigan State have an average SAT score between 1160-1360 or an average ACT score of 25-31.

A repeated course may be counted only once toward credit for graduation. However, both grades will appear on the student's transcript and will be included in the calculation of the student's grade point average.

A student accused of academic misconduct may request an academic grievance hearing to contest the allegation before the appropriate hearing board. In cases involving academic misconduct, no student may be dismissed from a course or program of study without an academic disciplinary hearing.

MSU is test optional, which means that prospective freshman students can apply for admission without submitting an ACT or SAT score. Students will indicate on the application whether they would like SAT or ACT exam scores included in their evaluation.

There is no separate application process. All high school students who apply and are admitted to Michigan State University in the fall semester of their senior year are considered for an Honors College invitation, generally between 6-8 weeks after admission to the university.
