For Duncan Daviau, being a PA isn’t just about patient care. It’s about advancing the profession through advocacy. He is President-Elect of the Massachusetts Association of PAs (MAPA), an organization he has been a part of since he was a student at MCPHS. “Some people would say I have two distinct roles, but I see them as one and the same,” he said. “It’s part of my professional and moral obligation to get involved and engage in advocacy.” Daviau’s goal is to add the PA perspective to as many healthcare-related issues as possible, from state laws and policies to system-wide reform. #MCPHSAlumni // Photos 1-4: Emily Rose Photography

Working as a scientist, alum Stephanie S. saw a need for a safe space for women in biotech to connect and support each other. So, she created one. It’s called The Female Catalyst. “There’s power in numbers, so our hope is by bringing like-minded women together, we can build a community of women who are more confident at work and in other parts of their lives,” she said. While building this community, Skouras is also dedicated to her biotech career. She works at Alnylam Pharmaceuticals where she manages the testing phase for therapies. #MCPHSAlumni Read more about how Skouras is uplifting women in the life sciences: https://bit.ly/3YDrhxf

Honors student Emerson Rafuse, PharmD ’25, spent the last year in the very first cohort of the Aspiring Academics program, a new initiative from the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) for student leaders who aspire to teach. “Students are the ones who will shape the pharmacy career,” she said. “I want to support them someday, just like there have been faculty who have supported me and helped me grow. I want to be able to give back.” Rafuse spent the year learning about professional pathways to a career in academia. This July, she and her peers presented research at the AACP Annual Meeting. Dr. Michelle Dowling, OTD, OTR/L, CHT, CLVT, spearheaded the initiative to bring 3D printers to the Worcester and Manchester campuses. "I wanted to challenge myself and my students to venture into more technology and not to be afraid of it," she said. How can occupational therapists utilize 3D printing? It turns out there are lots of ways. At MCPHS, faculty and students in the Masters of Science in Occupational Therapy program are creating 3D-printed accessible devices like splints to help disabled individuals. And they're even learning about human neuroanatomy using 3D-printed models of the brain. Read more about Dr. Dowling's quest to bring the OT program into new dimensions: https://bit.ly/3ypudTs
